
Albert T. Mitchell Commonwealth's Attorney
Albert T. Mitchell has served as Commonwealth's Attorney for Shenandoah County since 1999, when he was appointed to the position by the judges of the 26th Judicial Circuit. He was elected to the position in November of that same year.
A graduate of the University of Richmond and Washington and Lee University School of Law, Mitchell has practiced law in Shenandoah County since 1967. He has served as the Town Attorney for the Town of Woodstock from 1970 to the present. Mitchell also served as Commonwealth's Attorney from 1972-1976 and as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney from 1990-1999.
Mr. Mitchell is married to the former Toni Ross, and has three adult children. He is a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Woodstock.
Kenneth L. Alger, II Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney
Kenneth Alger joined the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney in October of 2005. He is responsible for the prosecution of all cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. In that capacity, he prosecutes domestic violence and child molestation cases as well as youthful offenders. Mr. Alger also prosecutes various misdemeanor and felony cases in the General District and Circuit Court.
Mr. Alger practiced family and criminal law in Luray, Virginia and Shenandoah County before coming to our office. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and an honors graduate of the University of Georgia, School of Law. During law school he worked for the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office in Atlanta Georgia and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia.
Mr. Alger attended Page County High School where he was Valedictorian of his class. Since returning to the area, he has played an active role in his community. He currently serves as President of the Page County United Way, Secretary of the Board of Directors of Choices, Inc., the Council against Domestic Violence in Luray, and serves on the area Sexual Assault Response Team. Alger is also a board member for Lord Fairfax Community College Foundation Board, as well as a community mentor. Additionally, he is the current chair for the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers' Conference, Domestic Violence Safety Project.
Michael M. Fleming
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney
Michael Fleming joined the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney in 2009. He is responsible for the prosecution of misdemeanor and felony cases in the General District and Circuit Courts, including cases arising from the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force.
Mr. Fleming spent the last two years as an Assistant Public Defender handling cases in Warren County, Frederick County and The City of Winchester. Prior to that, he was a solo practitioner with an office in Middletown, Virginia. He graduated from Shepherd College in 1986 and from George Mason School of Law in 1999. Mr. Fleming grew up in Winchester, Virginia, and graduated from John Handley High School. He is a life-long resident of the Shenandoah Valley, and lives with his wife, Karen, and two children in Middletown, Virginia.
Dragana McCleary
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney
Mrs. McCleary has served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Shenandoah County since 2007. She is responsible for prosecuting juvenile offenders and various other misdemeanor and felony cases in General District and Circuit Courts.
Mrs. McCleary has a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA and attended law school at Syracuse University. While in law school, Dragana participated in the Syracuse University College of Law Criminal Law Clinic and served as a summer intern in our office. Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, Mrs. McCleary now enjoys living in Woodstock with her husband Jeremy. She is a member of the Woodstock United Methodist Church.
