2010 Fall Programs
Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation will be offering a wide variety of classes this fall. No matter what age, we will have a class that you will enjoy. 3rd Annual Doggie Paddle
The 3rd Annual Doggie Paddle will take place on September 11 at the Edinburg Town Pool from 10:00am-2:00pm. This is a great opportunity for your dog to enjoy some time swimming in the pool, searching for bones, putting on their best costume, showing off their best tricks, and just enjoy a nice day in the park. Vendors will be on site selling pet products. We hope to see you at the Edinburg Pool!
Road Rally In the Valley
Do you think you know your way around Shenandoah County? Do you know those quick, back-road short cuts? if so, this event is for you! Join us for the 1st Annual Road Rally In the Valley. There will be two divisions--GPS and non GPS-- and you'll be challenged to find all of the assigned sports, answer all of the trivia questions correctly, and get back to the finish line in the quickest time! The rally will be held on September 26 at the Shenandoah County Park with on-site registration beginning at 1:30pm. For more information regarding this exciting event, click HERE .
2011 Mediterranean Cruise

Saturday Night Stargazing is BACK!!!
Do you want to learn how to find the constellations or the North Star?
Do you want to take a long look at another planet and its moons? How
about viewing a Ring Nebula or a Double Star? Please join Shenandoah
County Parks & Recreation for several Saturday night stargazing evenings
this fall and winter. This event is for all ages; please bring the
entire family! Bring a picnic chair, your binoculars or your own
telescope, a flashlight, and dress for the nighttime temperatures. The
hosts will provide telescopes and instruction. This is a
weather-permitting event; if it’s cloudy or raining, the event will be
canceled until the next month. There is no pre-registration needed, but
please be sure to check the cancellation line at 984-3030, Option 9,
before heading to the park. For ALL ages!
For those of you with a stargazing/astronomy interest, Shenandoah County
Park now has its own Clear Sky Chart. This is the weather info. SCPR
and our volunteer astronomers use to determine if our stargazing events
will go forward or not. The website gives you cloud cover information
and is very, very accurate. So, for the next event, you can check the
Clear Sky Chart for the park and see what the weather will be like;

Line Dancing for Beginners
Learn basic line dancing skills while dancing to all styles of music and rhythms! Start with the basic beginner dances which we will add on more steps each week. We will be dancing to a mix of country, pop, and oldies music, while learning the current line dances. This class will be held on Thursdays, September 23-November 11 from 7:00pm-8:00pm. Come expecting to laught and make new friends.
Nature Classes
SCPR is excited to announce NEW Nature Classes for this fall. These classes will be held throughout the fall and will cover topics such as identifying different types of bugs and insects, learning about fish, learning the different types of leaves, and detecting the various types of animals that roam our parks. These will be fun classes for kids! To find out more information, please check out our fall brochure.
Rubber Stamping Class
Come learn the art of rubber stamping. We will use rubber stamps, craft ribbon, card stock and miscellaneous embellishments to design and create homemade greeting cards with style. The first session will be held Wednesdays, October 6-October 27 from 6:30pm-8:00 and we will create greeting cards for all occasions. The second session will be held on Wednesdays, November 3-December 1 (No class on 11/24) from 6:30pm-8:00pm and we will create greeting cards for the holidays. Once you take this class, there will be no need to ever purchase another card from a store!
Toss the Toxins
Imagine making your own cleaning products. These products transform mundane chores into blissful meditations. During the class, you will make non-toxic products to meet all of your cleaning needs, save money using inexpensive ingredients you already have, learn the position power of aromatherapy and the fun of incorporating its benefits into your cleaning routine. This class will be held September 20 from 2:00-4:00 and October 4 from 6:30-8:30 at the Edinburg School.
Movin' and Groovin'
Let's get moving! Join us for morning fitness and get the day started off on the right foot. We'll start out slow with some chair exercises and gradually increase our routine as we build stamina and strength. This class will be held on Thursdays, September 16-October 21 from 10:00am-11:00am. This class is for ages 55 and over.
Crocheting with Ali
Whether you want to learn to Crochet or have some experience, this course covers all skill levels. Join Ali as she helps you make a practical scarf. All supplies are included in the class fee. This class will be held on Thursdays, September 30-November 4 from 9:30am-11:30am. This class is for ages 55 and over.
Morning Tai Chi
Looking for an exercise which challenges your mind and body? Tai Chi is the ideal class for you as it not only challenges your mind, but also improves strength, flexibility, joint mobility, balance and coordination. This class will be held on Wednesdays from 10:00am-11:00am with the first session being September 15-October 20 and the second session being October 27-December 1. This class is for ages 55 and over.
