Chapter 156, VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC

ARTICLE I, Adoption of State Law [EN]1 [Adopted 9-23-1997 by Ord. No. 97-7; amended in its entirety 6-6-2006 by Ord. No. 2006-8; 6-12-2007 by Ord. No. 2007-12; amended in its entirety 9-8-2009 by Ord. No. 2009-02 ]
§ 156-1. Adoption by reference.
A. Pursuant to the authority of Code of Virginia, § 46.2-1313, all of the provisions and requirements of the laws of the commonwealth contained in Code of Virginia Title 46.2, as amended, and in Code of Virginia §§ 18.2-266 through 18.2-273, as amended, as it reads, effective July 1, 2009, except those provisions and requirements the violation of which constitutes a felony, and except those provisions and requirements which, by their very nature, can have no application to or within a county, are hereby adopted and incorporated in this chapter by reference and made applicable within the County.
B. References to "highways of the state" contained in such provisions and requirements hereby adopted shall be deemed to refer to the streets, highways and other public ways within the County. Such provisions and requirements are hereby adopted, mutatis mutandis, and made a part of this chapter as fully as those set forth at length herein, and it shall be unlawful for any person within the County to violate or fail, neglect or refuse to comply with any provision of Code of this section, provided that in no event shall the penalty imposed for the violation of any provision or requirement hereby adopted exceed the penalty imposed for a similar offense under Code of Virginia Title 46.2 or under Code of Virginia §§ 18.2-266 through 18.2-273.
ARTICLE II, Courthouse Parking [Adopted 1-10-1978]
§ 156-2. Limitation on parking.
Effective at 8:00 a.m. January 11, 1978, parking of vehicles on the parking lot of the Shenandoah County Circuit Courthouse shall be limited to such County elected and appointed officials and their employees or deputies and to such other government representatives as the County Administrator shall designate.
§ 156-3. Towing of illegally parked vehicles; reclamation upon payment of charges.
Persons firms or corporations violating this article shall be subject to having their vehicle or vehicles towed away to the County Vehicle Impoundment Area wherein the owner may reclaim it only after presenting a receipt for payment of the towing charges and paying such storage charges as the County may levy.
§ 156-4. Enforcement.
This article shall be enforced by the Sheriff of Shenandoah County and his deputies. Other elected and appointed officials of the County shall cooperate with the Sheriff in enforcing this article.
