I have a farm vehicle/national guard vehicle and currently do not pay the full price for the county decal. What vehicle license fee will I have to pay?
The fee you pay will not change. You will be required to present your vehicle registration card and, based on that information, will be granted a reduced fee.

Will I still be able to use the landfill facilities?
Yes. Not having a decal will have no bearing on using the facilities.

I thought that a county decal was proof of payment of taxes. How will you handle the collection of Personal Property taxes without a decal?
Previously, the Treasurer's Office could not enforce the purchase of a county decal. There were citizens who circumvented the process and did not purchase and display the decal. By assessing the vehicle license fee to all licensed and assessed vehicles located outside the town limits, a more equitable process will be in place. The enforcement and collection will be the sole responsibility of the Treasurer. Any persons who are delinquent on taxes/vehicle license fees will be subject to the DMV Vehicle Registration withholding program.

"In September of 2005 I presented to the Board of Supervisors a proposal to eliminate the county decal. After much research and discussion I am pleased that 2006 was the last time Shenandoah County citizens were required to purchase and display a county decal. Beginning January 1, 2007 county residents will no longer have the inconvenience of having to purchase and display a county decal. On this website you will find FAQ's concerning the Vehicle License Fee procedure for the tax year 2007 and beyond. It was my office's desire to eliminate the decal which will result in a more efficient, less frustrating and less time consuming system for our citizens. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have."
